Flowerless Wedding | Arista Winery | Healdsburg, CA
Flowers are a very important part to a wedding day. That’s just my personal opinion. So at first thought, a Flowerless Wedding sounds pretty sad to me.
It’s not uncommon for me to hear during an initial consultation, ‘We picked the venue because it is naturally so pretty. I do not want to overdo it with the floral design. So our floral budget is XYZ. I just want to highlight the beauty that already exists.’ I understand the meaning behind this type of statement. So what can be done when a Bride doesn’t want to use any flowers?
Back in June I had the chance to see first hand the kind of beauty that could be created without a single flower. Bride Tammy contacted me and said she had a little something unique in mind if I didn’t mind designing ‘outside the box’. It sounded good to me. I like trying new things. With long floral print dresses selected for her bridesmaids, Tammy wanted designs that would compliment rather than compete. Her idea…. greenery! The greenery wouldn’t start and stop just with the bridesmaid bouquets, but it would carry all the way through her entire wedding. From boutonnieres, ceremony decor and centerpieces greenery would be the name of this bride’s game. Even her bridal bouquet was designed without a petal.
While she didn’t want to use any flowers, Tammy still had a desire for a pop of color. I emailed her the week before the wedding to float an idea of a minor centerpiece design addition. With a nod to the South and the bride’s love for stone fruit – peaches, nectarines, cherries and apricots would be incorporated.
Tammy was ahead of the curve. Imagine my delight when Pantone announced that the color of the year for 2017 was Greenery! 🙂
